Mumbai Franchise Appoint Lasith Malinga As Bowling Mentor – Sri Lankan fast bowler who is known for his bowling action ruled the bowling department in the IPL for Mumbai Indians for last one decade. But the IPL 2018 did not go as we all thought. The 34-year-old went unsold during the IPL 11 Auction. It was expected that Mumbai Indians would bid for Malinga. But the franchise had some other plans for the experienced fast bowler. Mumbai Indians have appointed Lasith Malinga as their bowling mentor for the upcoming season of IPL.
Lasith Malinga was the face of Mumbai Indians since IPL 2 and has contributed hugely towards Mumbai Indians glory. The chants of “Malingaa Malingaa” over Wankhede Stadium are still fond memories of each and every Mumbai Indians fan.
Lasith Malinga is the highest wicket taking bowler in IPL history with 154 wickets in 110 matches. He leads the Indian spinner Amit Mishra by 20 wickets. Malinga has been an important part of all three IPL finals Mumbai Indians have won. Malinga was also a purple cap holder in IPL 2011.
While conversing with Malinga after his appointment, fast bowler said,
“It’s a great opportunity to continue my association with Mumbai Indians. Mumbai has been my home away from home for the last decade. As a player, I have enjoyed the journey with Mumbai Indians and now as mentor, I look forward to the new chapter”
Mumbai Indians has been known for transforming local players to International stars. Lasith Malinga’s huge experience will surely help the youngsters. Even, Jasprit Bumrah who leads the Indian bowling lineup today once said that his interactions with Lasith Malinga evolved his bowling massively. So Malinga’s presence in the dressing room will surely help the team.
The combined force of Shane Bond and Lasith Malinga will work on bowling department of Mumbai Indians. Malinga will join the star-studded coaching lineup of Mumbai Indians which involves – Mahela Jayawardene (head coach), Shane Bond (bowling coach), Robin Singh (batting coach) and James Pemment (fielding coach).
