Ricky Ponting Appointed As Delhi Daredevils Head Coach For IPL 2018 – The former Australian skipper, Ricky Ponting has been appointed as the head coach of Delhi franchise for IPL 2018. The franchise confirmed the news on Thursday evening (January 4).
Previously, Ricky Ponting coached Mumbai Indians for two years where he was successful to make Mumbai Indians 2015 title holders. The legendary cricketer will now replace Paddy Upton as Delhi Daredevils new head coach. DD and Paddy Upton parted their ways last years following the expiry of the two-year contract.

The legendary career of Ricky Ponting involves 13000 runs in Tests as well as in ODIs. He also took Australia to World Cup wins in the shorter format. He also captained the Australian Test side which dominated the world cricket for few years. He was an active participant in IPL. He was sold to Mumbai Indians in IPL 2013 for a base price of $400,000. But due to lack of runs (52 from 6 matches), Ponting resigned mid-way and handed it to Rohit Sharma.

Delhi Daredevils also lost the service of their mentor “The Wall” Rahul Dravid who was the part of Delhi Daredevils for last two years. Rahul Dravid opted out of IPL as he desired to coach India A and Under 19 India.

It is going to be a huge task for Ricky Ponting at Delhi Daredevils. DD team management has started to regroup their side. On Thursday, the franchise retained their three players – Chris Morris, Rishab Pant and Shreyas Iyer for 7.1 crores, 8 crores and 7 crores respectively.
